Yesterday Simon Clarke MP was delighted to invite Northern Powerhouse Minister Jake Berry MP to visit British Steel's Special Profiles division in Skinningrove.
Simon and Jake held a very useful lunchtime meeting with the company's Deputy CEO, Paul Martin, and the MD of the Special Profiles plant, Peter Gate, discussing issues ranging from the company's new contract with Toyota through to US steel tariffs, Brexit and future exciting possibilities like securing one of the new Heathrow Logistics Hubs. There are lots of ideas for Simon to take away and follow up on, which is great.
The Special Profiles site is a national asset for our country, and the capability it delivers has very few rivals around the world. Simon has been working hard to help ensure our post-Brexit trade remedies framework is sufficiently robust and is really pleased British Steel are pleased with the outcome.
Jake is rightly keen that his Northern Powerhouse tour engages with workers as well as management, and the meeting was followed by a very thoughtful Q&A with dozens of the workforce - thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts!
